We have put together a handy list of tips for around the garden and home, which will save on your water bills:
- Avoid using the hose to clean driveways and patios. Try using a good broom or rake. They do a great job and think of the exercise! Or invest in an electric blower.
- Water your gardens using your harvested rain water. The best part of the day is early morning. This will help against the hot sun drying out the soil too quickly.
- Inspect the gardens soil before watering. Insert your finger a couple of centimetres below the surface. If it’s damp, leave it for the next day.
- Different seasons require different water levels. If you have an automatic sprinkler system, remember to adjust the timer to specific seasonal requirements.
- Go Aussie! If you can, try to buy plants that are native to Australia. They require much less water for our harsh climate.
- If possible wash your car on the lawn using biodegradable car wash. Use a bucket and a hose with a trigger nozzle.
